The inconvenience of cable break-in:

Brand new cables require up to 400 hours to properly settle down sonically and "break-in". This process and why it happens is a mystery not yet fully understood, but is in great evidence amongst experienced audiophiles.

Just as musical instruments sound better over time, so do audio cables. We believe it has to do with the electron lineup within the wire conductor, electrostatic charges within the cable and the properties of the dielectric changing from the magnetic fields that are around the wire as the signal flows through it.

This break-in process causes a great inconvenience, requiring time and effort, as well as hours spent on your equipment before you can enjoy the full sonic potential of the cables you purchased. If you have tube equipment, this also wastes precious hours of tube life.

The greatest problem with this is how to break-in speaker cables. To do so properly necessitates running your amplifier while at the same time playing the speakers loudly, so that break-in can occur. This can be a great inconvenience to your ears as well as the family.

The solution... Introducing the Morrow Audio cable break-in service:

We provide, at a very reasonable price, a break-in service where we will break-in your cables for you. With this service you can avoid the "difficult to listen to" stage of break-in, providing a way for you to fully enjoy your cables once received.

TESTIMONIAL

"The Morrow Audio SP3s (out of the box) sounded compressed, muted and lacking in both frequency extremes.  The transient attacks on instruments were diminished and the overall tonality was thin.

It's difficult to write this without making it sound like the SP3 cables sound bad without the break-in service.  I wouldn't say they sounded "bad", it was just that I didn't have the patience to wait and see if they would sound better than the much more expensive cables I was using.

After mailing in the cables for the break-in service, and receiving them back, the cables sounded much more full-bodied with good transient peformance, and a very natural midrange and good response at the frequency extremes. The break in service provided a huge sonic improvement." Marc A.

"I also recommend the break-in service. New interconnects go through a period of sounding worse before they break in and then they come into their own. Mike suggested the service and it was worth the expense!" Joey Caleyo

Service is available for any brand of cable:

You do not have to be a Morrow Audio customer or own Morrow Audio cables to take part in this service. Simply place your break-in order and ship us your cables. We will ship them back to you once completed. If you are in the USA, they will ship with a signiture required.

We have even had request to break-in spools of wire for the DIY person who desires to rewire a component or speaker, or the kit builder. Each spool of wire is counted as 1 unit when you place your order. Both ends must be exposed for access to the break-in equipment. Weight limit for each spool cannot exceed 40 pounds and applicable shipping charges will need to apply when shipping the wire back to you.

How long does your break-in service take?

Our service takes 3 to 5 days to complete, depending on the number of orders we have. Multiple cables can be broken in at the same time by the use of our patch panel.

What equipment do you use for this service?

We have searched all over to find the best cable break-in machine. The expensive Hagerman Audio Labs "FryDaddy" was the only and best choice.

The sophisticated electronic waveform – a combination of wide band noise and variable frequency amplitude modulation – was developed to provide a maximum combination of both low and high frequency content without being repetitious in any way.

20 volts peak to peak of this signal is passed through the cable for 72 hours (3 days), insuring proper break-in. Each hour on the break-in machine is equivelant to three hours of normal music listening.

We have designed a large patch bay in conjunction with the FryDaddy where we connect the cables to the break-in system. Each cable has it's own timer, insuring the proper time of break-in required.

You will receive a signed and dated certificate that list your cables and the hours spent on the break-in machine.

Units explained (Applicable only for break-in orders that are mailed in)

The total price for your break-in order depends on the number of cables, or "units" in the order.

A "unit" is one pair of cables or a single cable. IE, a pair of interconnects would be considered as one unit. A power cord would be considered as one unit. A single channel cable, like a center channel speaker cable would be considered as one unit.

Example: If you had a pair of speaker cables, a pair of interconnects, a single channel speaker cable and a power cord for us to break-in, this would be considered a total of 4 units. With the price being $39.00, your total order will cost $156.00 plus shipping.

For adding this service to a Morrow Audio cable order, there will be a drop down found in the shopping cart.

Is the service refundable?

The cable break-in service is non-refundable due to the additional labor involved. If you are applying this service to a Morrow Audio cable order, and you later return the cable(s) for a refund under our return policy, you will be refunded the price you paid less the break-in service and shipping.

Why do you charge Morrow Audio cable orders for this service?

Cable companies who offer cables already broken in incorporate a hidden charge in the price of their cables to cover equipment and labor for this process.

At Morrow Audio we desire to offer our customers a choice. This allows them the opportunity to save money by breaking in their own cables. For customers who desire to avoid this process, we offer our break-in service at an affordable price.

What to expect:

Cables that partake in this service will need a day of your regular listening to settle down into their new environment. After this you will be hearing 80% to 90% of their sonic potential. You will be over the difficult hump of break-in and can fully enjoy the music now flowing until 100% break-in occurs from regular use.
